Since inception we have invested directly in income producing properties, real estate development projects, indirect investments and real estate backed operating platforms totalling circa £3 billion.

Mansford operates a number of active investment strategies across the UK market investing on an absolute return basis within long dated private equity fund structures whose underlying investors are leading UK and global institutions.

Mansford is founded.

Berkeley Mansford JV with Berkeley Group Plc, the UK’s largest housebuilder, set up to acquire commercial real estate opportunistically.

1997

J O Hambro Mansford JV with J O Hambro & Co, set up to acquire high street retail properties.

Dot com bubble burst

2000

Dot com bubble burst

Chelsea Harbour London acquired in JV with Berkeley Group, Chelsfield and Compco.

JV with S.A.Brains to redevelop their Cardiff brewery into The Old Brewery Quarter, the first of a number of successful JVs with owner-occupiers.

2004

JV with New Zealand partner to develop retirement villages in the UK (Renaissance Lifecare).

2005

Continental European investments in French industrial, German retail and Swiss office properties.

2006

All UK real estate assets divested.

First institutional fund set up to invest into UK real estate opportunistically post GFC.

Multiple assets acquired across different real estate sectors, including buyout of European logistics developer Helios in JV with its founder (now Verdion). Further institutional funds in opportunistic, core and income strategies follow.

First unlevered core fund set up to focus on London property.

2013

The Manchester Arena and Chiswell Brewery London acquired.

2014

The Woolwich Arsenal Estate London acquired.

2015

Sterling Industrial platform created to aggregate industrial and logistics properties.

Focus on acquiring operating businesses. Dean & Reddyhoff Marinas acquired (now Boatfolk).

EXECUTIVE BOARD

Mansford’s Executive Board oversees all aspects of the firm’s investment activities, from origination through to divestment.

Justin Dowley

Justin Dowley serves on the Executive Board as chairman of Mansford LLP. In addition to his role at Mansford, Justin is chairman of Melrose Industries plc, Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust plc and Alpha Insurance Analysts Ltd; deputy chairman of the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers; and a non executive director of J.P. Boden & Co Ltd. In his earlier career he was a co founder of Tricorn Partners LLP, the independent advisory firm; head of Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch Europe and a director of Morgan Grenfell.

Charles H. Knight

Charles is Joint Managing Partner and member of the firm’s Executive Board and of the Management, Investment, Asset Management and Governance and Audit Committees. Charles leads origination, transaction management and management of the investment team. Charles has over 30 years real estate experience and has originated, underwritten, financed and asset managed a wide range of assets across all asset sub classes. Charles joined Mansford as a Founder Partner. Prior to joining Mansford Charles spent ten years at GVA where he focused on institutional investment, leasing and development funding. Charles is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and former High Sheriff.

Oliver Smith

Oliver is Joint Managing Partner and member of the firm’s Executive Board and the firm’s internal sub-Committees with overall responsibility for the group’s investment activities. Oliver has over 30 years real estate experience and has invested across all asset sub classes and structures with particular expertise in joint ventures and asset backed operating companies. Prior to founding Mansford, Oliver was Funding Director for Arlington Securities with responsibility for Arlington’s investment sales, development funding, financing and joint venture negotiations as well as its operations in continental Europe and the US. Prior to Arlington Oliver was employed by Goldman Sachs within their Real Estate Investment Banking Group. Oliver holds a BA in Law from Trinity College, Cambridge.

David J. Reynolds

David serves on the Executive Board as a Senior Advisor. Prior to joining Mansford in 2009 David was a Partner at a strategic consulting firm. Prior to this David held roles as a management consultant in New York and London advising Investment Banks and Hedge Funds on strategy and organisational design. David is a sometime visiting lecturer at the University of Cambridge, holds an MA in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh and is an alumnus of the London Business School.
